"Coca-Cola Hard Times Ad"
In this advertisment by Cola-Cola, there are two of the three major techniques used. The first is ethos, for example, using a celebrity to sell perfume. In this add, Coke uses The Simpsons to help create the enviroment for this advirtisment. Ethos is used because The Simpson's is a very popular television show, that most people are familiar with. Another technique used is pathos, using an emotional tug, and promising to meet a need or desire. It is clear in this ad, that obviously the character is going through a hard time and having a horrible day, when it seems like everyone around him is having the time of their lives. As soon as he is handed the old fashioned glass bottle of Coca-Cola, he is refreshed with more than pop. He is lifted by community and is now taking part in the wonderful day everyone is having. So this ad is promising that Coke will turn your bad days into good ones. I personally don't think this is very effective, but maybe some people might buy it because it will make them feel better.
I believe you did a very good job in explaining what all the techniques are in making a good advertisement. I liked the commercial you picked too, I thought it was really funny! In conclusion I thought you did a very good job.
ReplyDeleteI don't think this ad is very effective either. Coca-Cola has been know to come up with some pretty creative, heartfelt commercials but I am afraid this one doesn't do it for me. You did a great job explaining the ethos and pathos in the commercial.
ReplyDeleteThis commercial is very funny, and I like the rhetorical analysis you used because it does portray a famous tevelvision show, and the emtional tug you refered too is i believe very accurate too because its a classic coke a cola commercial with the refreshing coke!
